Apparent first edition (NAP, MDCCCCXIX on the title page. Inside the book is a separate large card that states 'With the Compliments of the Delegates of the Press' as well as 'Oxford'. The book has marbled covers. There are a few small spots of rubbing on the spine. The label on the front cover is in excellent condition. There is one small spot at the top page edge. The book is decently bound. There is one instance of a very thin space between two facing pages, both pages tightly bound from top to bottom. The small spot at the top page edge peeks over the top edge of eight to ten pages, not reaching or touching any of the print. The pages are otherwise exceptionally clean. Likely as a result of a bump there is a small crease above the bottom corners of all of the pages, far from the print. There is also a little crinkle off the top edge of a number of early pages and a little tan shadow in the shape of the little crinkle on the pages facing it, none of the crinkles or shadows touch the print. I saw three consecutive pages with a top corner crease. There are penciled straight lines at the margin next to some paragraphs on some of the pages. They can easily be erased. There are two instances of uncut pages in the eleven-page Introduction. There are nine instances of uncut pages in the 119 page text. There also seven penciled numbers on the rear side of the blank rear end paper. There are no markings or attachments in the book. 'Walter Savage Landor (1775-1864) was an English writer, poet, and activist. His best known works were the prose Imaginary Conversations, and the poem Rose Aylmer, but the critical acclaim he received from contemporary poets and reviewers was not matched by public popularity. As remarkable as his work was, it was equaled by his rumbustious character and lively temperament. Both his writing and political activism, such as his support for Lajos Kossuth and Giuseppe Garibaldi, were imbued with his passion for liberal and republican causes.He befriended and influenced the next generation of literary reformers such as Charles Dickens and Robert Browning.'
