First time in Berlin --- First published in 1917, 'White Flock' was Akhmatova's third collection of poetry, written during the disintegration of her marriage and as a world war raged on, it is a deeply Christian engagement with the manifold grief of human history. This is the fourth edition, the first to also include 'U samogo moria' ['At the Edge of the Sea'], a long autobiographical poem taking place on the shores of the Black Sea. It had been published just a year before printing this edition, in 1921. This is also one of her firsts editions to be printed abroad, and the second of this particular work after a 1919 Tbilisi edition. Original wrappers printed in blue and black. Condition:Spine restored, wrappers very lightly stained, edges creased or torn as often; pretty fresh internally, with the odd minor spot or crease.
