Pendant (Amulet) Triglav - Bronze

Triglav is a Slavic God, worshipped in Wolin and Szczecin by the Pomeranian tribe. Triglav has three heads, because it administers three realms: Heaven, Earth and the Underworld.

The biographer Herbord states that one of the shrines of Stettin, the main one, was built with special art and mastery, with carvings of people and birds on the outside and inside. In this shrine, according to the old custom of the ancestors, part of the captured booty and weapons of the enemies were collected. In this hall stood a three-headed idol, having three heads on one torso, called Triglav (Triglaus).

A black horse with a richly decorated saddle is also dedicated to Triglav. It was tended by a reaper from one of the temples and used for divination, as Herbord describes.

The cult of Triglav is perhaps related to the folk tradition, documented in the 19th century, that on Midsummer's Night a beautiful black horse can be seen grazing in the moonlight, which disappears when someone approaches it.
