Four works bound together, predominantly in French. The History of the Misfortunes of John Calas by Voltaire in an English translation and published in Edinburgh in 1776 (48pp). Appended is a letter to his wife and children in the original French along with an introduction to this in French. Memoires sur la Bastille par M. Linguet in French (192pp) but published in London by T. Spilsbury in 1783. Nouveau Tableau De Spa, Manuel Indispensable a ceux qui frequentent ce lieu funeste & a tout homme qui veut connoitre les moeurs de ce fiecle. Edition generalement refondue, corrigee & considerablement augmentee published in French in 1785 (84pp) - there was an earlier edition published in 1784. Observations sur la Destruction de la promenade du jardin du Palais-Royal. Lettre d'un Anglois etabli a Paris, a Milord P*** a Londres. in French and published in Amsterdam in 1781 (46pp). Bound in contemporary quarter leather with marbled boards. The spine has some chipping at the top and bottom, the title panel has 'French Tracts,' and there is a little light cracking along the edges but the binding is secure. Rubbing to the corners with some some surface and edge wear. Browning to the endpapers with the name of a previous owner in ink to the title page - Lady Wale of Shelford near Cambridge. She has listed the contents on the front free endpaper and a family bookplate is on the front pastedown. Slight staining to the inner edges of the first few pages of the first work which has a crease to the top corner of one page. Light spotting to the first page of the second work with one page edge that has been badly cut and protrudes in a few places and a crease to one top corner. Small piece torn from the bottom corner of the first page of the third work. The final work has shorter pages and the edges have been very roughly cut. There are some spots and marks to the pages which have some browning but the pages are otherwise generally unmarked. With the exception of third work these appear to be first editions .
