Good Life. Prince, Richard.

First edition, signed by Richard Prince and John McWhinnie on the title-page; 4to (279 x 192 mm, 11 x 7½ in); colour photographs printed in offset, essay by John McWhinnie; photo-illustrated wrappers, fine; [106]pp. Signed by Richard Prince and John McWhinnie. Good Life comprises Prince's photographs of his collections, including first edition literature, pulp novels, art, design and lifestyle books, signed publicity photos, and ephemera. These are arranged in groups and juxtaposed with one another. John McWhinnie's essay discusses the influence of books and book collecting on Prince's practice: 'It is this material world that Prince has found in our spiritual America, and he has not been above doing its act, occasionally riffing off it and ripping it off, first through re-photographed magazine ads that lock like movie stills with cigarette cases, living room ensembles, Stepford models and luxury goods cast in lead roles. The Good Life encompasses just the sorts of items Prince continually scavenges from the world of affluence and places front and center in his art: But not without an ironic twist, as his gangs, cowboys, girlfriends (biker girls and gun-toting outlaws), joke paintings and publicity stills attest.'
