Portrait - Kopf Im Profil Nach Links. Freud, Sigmund: = Struck, Hermann Mediziner Und Naturwissenschaftler Portraits

(Berlin 1914), Originallithographie 305 x 235 auf feinem Japanpapier, monogrammiert u. handsigniert "Hermann Struck"; Verso vom Künstler mit Bleistift bezeichnet "Bildnis Sigmund Freud" u. nummeriert "L8i"; minimal fleckig; feines Exemplar. Rare limited original lithograph! Monogrammed at the top left of the print in the manner designed by Stuck, in which the initial letters of the first and last name are arranged around a Star of David. Additionally signed by Struck in pencil in the right margin of the print. Inscribed by the artist in pencil on the verso: "Bildnis Sigmund Freud" and numbered: "L8i" One of several portraits executed of Freud by the artist; this print depicting the professor at about age 58. As can be seen from the comments on the etching (head in profile to the right), which was probably created at the same time, in Freud's letter to Struck of 7 November 1914, the subject liked the depiction: "The etching strikes me as a charming idealization, This is how I should like to look, and I may even be on the way there, but it seems to me I have got stuck halfway. Everything that is shaggy and angular about me you have made smooth amd rounded. You have put my [hair] parting on one side.Furthermore my hairline runs across the temple in a rather concave curve. By rounding it off you have greatly improved upon it. Very likely this correction was intentional. In a word, I feel the etching to be a great honor. Each time I look at it I like it better!" Letters , ed. Ernst Freud, p.306 Hermann Struck (1876 in Berlin - 1944 in Haifa), a German-Jewish draughtsman, painter, etcher and lithographer, is particularly well known for his etchings and lithographs. Struck taught Marc Chagall, Max Liebermann, Max Slevogt, Lovis Corinth, Joseph Budko and Lesser Ury, among others, the art of etching and lithography. As an orthodox Jew and committed Zionist, Struck was one of the founders of the Mizrachi movement of religious Zionism. After a first visit in 1903, he emigrated to Palestine in 1923, became a member of the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem and helped to found the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. His great commitment to art in Israel, which included the founding of the museum in Tel Aviv and an art school in Jerusalem as well as the establishment of an artists' colony in Haifa, earned him widespread admiration as "the artistic soul of Israel". Sigmund Freud (1856-1939) born Sigismund Schlomo Freud, Austrian neurologist and the founder of psychoanalysis, a clinical method for evaluating and treating pathologies seen as originating from conflicts in the psyche, through dialogue between patient and psychoanalyst, and the distinctive theory of mind and human agency derived from it.
