Published 1856, Edinburgh by James Nichol.2 volumes, each c. 325 pages. Text in English. Attractive antiquarian 1/2 leather binding, raised bands, gilt compartment decorations, gilt title lettering, marbled covers. Set is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Bindings age darkened and worn but still appealing, small chipping to spine head of first vol., leather, raised bands and joints scuffed in spots and slightly rubbed but still supple, set remains overall attractive as a mid-19th century set. Text block paper is gently age toned as typical, internally book remains mostly clean, tight and sound. A set which has been taken care of but may/ does not look like new. Still attractive on the shelf. Set displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in rather nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws seem easy to overlook or forgive.
