Archive Of Letters Updike, Daniel Berkeley

A Small Archive of letters dated 1901-1902. All are addressed to William Patton of Doubleday, Page & Co. All are on Updike's personal letterhead with D. B. Updike, The Merrymount Press printed at the top. The archive consists of 14 TLS's, 1 ALS, 3 LS's (secretarially signed) , 1 Ls, 1 TLs, and two typed, incomplete letters, missing the final page. Two letters consist of 2 pages each. One TLS has a holograph PS of several lines in Updike's hand. Most of the letters include details for printing, paper choices, type uses, page design, layout, etc. It appears at this time Updike was working on The Variorum and Definitive Edition of The Poetical and Prose Writings of Edward Fitzgerald, published in 1903.
