Die Datierung erfolgte durch den Katalog der Kartensammlung der Österreichischen Nationalbibliothek (in einem Sammelatlas: Tabularum Geographicarum Collectio). Gerhard Mercator (geboren als Gheert Cremer; latinisiert Gerardus Mercator; Rupelmone 1512 - 1594 Duisburg) war Geograph und Kartograf, der schon zu Lebzeiten als der Ptolemäus seiner Zeit angesehen wurde und große Berühmtheit erlangte. Heute vorwiegend als Karten- und Globenhersteller bekannt, war Mercator im 16.
