Approximately 300 x 185 mm, 12 x 7¼ inches, age-browned and spotted, right hand edge strengthened with narrow strip of old paper, slightly chipped to corners and edges, 3 folds at sometime, small typed label at foot. The date of the letter 1672 does not agree with the 24th year of King Charles II reign. This confusion has been kindly explained by a professional historian, King Charles II dated his reign from the death of his father 1648-1672, making 24 years confirmed by silver coins issued in 1672 with ANNO REGNI VICESIMO QUARTO around the edge. This letter was taken from an old card folder containing items connected with Samuel Pepys. The folder was put together by Willam Upcott (1779–1845) a well known librarian and author, who also collected large quanties of books, manuscripts, letters and other ephemera.
