[Botanical]. Original leaf, with woodblock illustration, from the famous first illustrated edition of Hieronymus Bock (1498-1554) Kreuter Buch printed by Wendel Riehel at Strasburg in 1546. Sheet Size approx. 12.25 x 8.25 inches. Woodcut depicting Tannenbaum tree with Stag and initialed "DK" in the plate; text on recto and verso with additional woodcut. Hieronymus Bock is one of the three German Fathers of Botany. The illustrations in this early German herbal were designed and cut by David Kandel. A very good example from this landmark work, printed in black-letter, on laid-paper, evenly-toned, loose and unmatted
