Large 8vo, 350 pp, bound in quarter crushed red morocco raised in five bands on the spine and ruled in gilt, with gilt titles on a black field, and the original illustrated wrappers laid in. Illustrated One of 1475 numbered copies (there was also a lettered edition). Illustrated with 16 full page color plates by Henri Armengol, and numerous additional black and white drawings, many of them full page. The first, and preferred edition of Muchery's important work on cartomancy and astrology, here with the full page color lithographs which were omitted in most later editions. The illustrations by Henri Armengol are incredible. Muchery had a lifelong interest in astrology and the occult, which he pursured during his military service in the Navy, and to which he devoted the remainder of his life after a seaplane incident in 1918. Rare. OCLC locates only 4 holdings. This example is in a beautiful binding which suffers from a moderate bow affexting the text block (which could be remedied). Otherwise, a very good example, the binding sound, with some rubbing to the binding and minor foxin to the upper edge of text block, but clean and bright throughout.
