Good with light wear but some foxing, a few early pages with a tiny triangle at bottom missing (not affecting text), page edge toning, good binding and bright gilt. Burrage was a Brevet Major, U. S. Vols. He brings together Lincoln's address, the battle, the cemetery and the National Park. Even this early, the author makes mention of the East Cavalry Field battle being "too much neglected." Covers East Cavalry Field battle and Custer's role and includes quote from Custer's report: "I challenge the annals of warfare to produce a more brilliant or successful charge of cavlary than the one just recounted." The author says Custer "did not put the case any too strongly" when writing. Includes several useful appendixes, including state expenditures at the Gettysburg National Park.
