The author explains; "As the hermit-crab which, during its growth, must leave its shell which has become too small, in order to seek a larger one, so must our consciousness leave a frame which, having once acted as a protection, has now become a prison. Our human adventure and our becoming is to evolve gradually from an unconscious state to a state of pure consciousness."
