Boards scuffed, worn at corners; hinges slightly cracking but holding very strong; foxing to endleaves, very clean and fresh throughout. Unusually (and smartly!) the text is arranged alphabetically by type of case for great ease of use. Sir John Holt (1642-1710) was an English lawyer who served as Lord Chief Justice of England from 17 April 1689 to his death. He is frequently credited with playing a major role in ending the prosecution of witches in English law.
