Two publications bound in one volume in quarter leather with marbled boards. The Temple of Virtue. A Dream. by Fordyce (91pp) was published in 1757, printed for the author and sold by T. Field. This was the first edition. Visions in Verse for the Entertainment and Instruction of Younger Minds by Cotton (137pp) was published by R. and J. Dodsley in 1755. This was the revised and enlarged fifth edition. The spine has some chipping at the top with a title panel reading 'Miscellanies.' There is a little cracking along the edge next to the front panel but the binding is secure enough. Rubbing and fraying to the corners with some surface and edge wear. Browning to the page edges. Browning to the endpapers with the name of a previous owner in ink to the front free endpaper - Lady Wale of Shelford near Cambridge. She has written the contents above this with the name of Dr. Cotton (not given on the title page) added at a later date. There is some other writing on the front pastedown. Browning and spotting at the front and back of the book and the pages are a little browned otherwise generally unmarked.
