First individual edition. Originally published in 1655 when it was appended to a Church History of Britain. The spine has a three inch tear along the edge of the front panel at the top and there is fraying at the top and bottom and some edge rubbing. There is a little discolouration to the front and rear panels with a little blistering to the surface of the front panel. There is quite heavy rubbing to the corners and some rubbing along the edges of the boards. There is some browning to the page edges. There is the bookplate of Anthony Edwards, Life Fellow of Gonville & Caius College and retired Professor of Biometry at the University of Cambridge, to the reverse of the front free endpaper. This book was part of his collection of Cambridge books which was a reflection of his keen and active interest in the governance of the Collegiate University. There are also some notes and a price in pencil to the same page. The front endpapers have tape along the hinge to reinforce it but there is a tear along most of the hinge between the next page and the half-title page. The front pastedown has a bookplate of an earlier owner and name, address and date in ink just below this. There is tearing to the half-title page and a little tearing at the top of the hinge at the rear endpapers. Two maps present at the front of the book. The pages have some browning but are otherwise generally clean and unmarked. No jacket. First printing.
