Toronto: Briggs, 1912. 12mo. [1pp] + 294pp. 20 b/w photo plates. Signed by the author. Red cloth, gilt. Bright and very good. The author arrived in Victoria in 1858, in the midst of the Fraser River gold rush. A thorough history of Victoria, with particular emphasis on the Colonial period, the people, and development of the community as a commercial centre. Fawcett knew many of the early pioneers as he served for 29 years at the Customs House. He dedicates a section to the Songhees people who supplied much needed food to local inhabitants.
