Printed black and white illustration [43 cm 28 cm] / [17" x 11"] that has been hand-tinted. Illustration is bright. Rare. Utah based artist, Mark Knudsen, was hired to hand-tint this illustration, that was intended to be printed in the corresponding calendar of the tenth-anniversary edition of the Monkey Wrench Gang, that was published by Ken Sanders' Dream Garden Press. When R. Crumb was presented this for his feedback, he was unhappy with the coloring. This illustration faces page 224. The tenth anniversary edition of the Monkey Wrench Gang contained illustrations throughout by the legendary illustrator, R[obert] Crumb. Robert Crumb (American b. 1943) is an American cartoonist and musician, who is well-known for influential works and contributions to the underground comix movement in the 1960s. Crumb is known for his quirky artwork coupled with idiosyncratic dialogue. The Monkey Wrench Gang is Abbey's most famous and influential novel, that follows the deeds and adventures of Doc, Hayduke, Bonnie, and Seldom Seen, as they protest the industrialization and destruction of the southwest through means of sabotage and "monkeywrenching." Because of this work, the term 'monkeywrench' has come to mean, besides sabotage and damage to machines, any sabotage, activism, lawmaking, or lawbreaking to preserve wilderness, wild spaces and ecosystems.
