Occ. minor spotting and darkening, o/w. contents fine. More recent full-calf binding with raised bands and gilt lettering to spine in fine condition. Housed in purpose made green cloth solander box in fine condition. Among his many other accomplishments, John Evelyn was well known for his knowledge of trees. Silva was written as an encouragement to landowners to plant trees to provide timber for Englands burgeoning Navy. This edition was revised and added to by Alexander Hunter, a medical practioner and fellow of the Royal Society, who included many additional engravings.
