First edition, two volumes, 8vo. Portrait frontispiece in volume I, booklabel in volume I of Roger Senhouse, signature in both volumes of his father Humphrey. Original boards, rebacked with copies of the original labels, volume numbers added in ink. Born in Brussels, Henningsen fought under Zumalacarregui in the first Carlist war, eventually becoming captain of his bodyguard. Senhouse was a co-owner of the publishing house Secker & Warburg from the mid-30s onwards, and was Lytton Strachey's final lover.
