CONTENT DESCRIPTION: The author, Kate M. Scott, was born in 1837 and served in the Civil War from 1861-1865 as a volunteer Army Nurse at Camp Jackson, Virginia with the 105th Pennsylvania Regiment. As a volunteer, Scott worked as a nurse aiding men who were dying from fever and pneumonia. She was quarantined twice by smallpox during her time as a volunteer. She served as corresponding secretary of the 105th Regiment Association and also of the Monumental Association of the 105th Pennsylvania Volunteers. Nicknamed the "Wildcat Regiment" in recognition of the unit's large membership from the Wildcat Congressional District in Jefferson County, the 105th Pennsylvania was also staffed by a large contingent of men from Clarion County. It had engagements at Fair Oaks, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Wilderness and Spotsylvania, and Petersburg. The 105th Pennsylvania Infantry is recognized as one of the FOX 300 Fighting Regiments. A remarkable book, with a beautiful binding, here in near fine collector’s condition with inscription from the author.
