The viscount was a French nobleman who married a lady of the Yorkshire gentry. This copy is well preserved in the original green cloth binding. Francis Haywood (1793/4–1858) is best known for producing the first English translation of the Critique of Pure Reason in 1838. Haywood's translation was praised by the philosopher William Hamilton (1788-1856), the leading contemporary British authority on Kant. Here, Haywood clarifies various confusions arising, as he sees it, from Kant's notoriously complex writing style. Octavo.
