"This map fragment, cut into an unusual shape, was originally printed by the German Air Force around 1940 or 1941. The image presents a large-scale street plan of Liverpool based on Ordnance Surveys. A few locations - a train station, water works, and a factory complex - are outlined and numbered; reflecting their status as bombing targets. The item is explained in further detail by manuscript text written in English on the verso, though the city is incorrectly identified. "The Germans evidently had more maps of England than they knew what to do with when the invasion never took place so they made them into envelopes. This is a part of London.
