Lessons illustrated include stick laying and paper folding, dish washing and table setting, and pricking and moulding. All have their own musical compositions with the idea that if you sing while you work you will be happy. There are other specially composed songs and the volume comprises 138 numbered pages. Original brown cloth with black and gilt illustrations. Gilt edges. Inked on blank leaf is an inscription dated June 1882: 'A Harper Edgbaston High School for Girls Hagley Road Birmingham. Presumably, this instructive volume was owned by a teacher, or added to the school library at this date. One of the illustrations has been hand watercoloured. However, the colouring is neat and contemporary. There is some fading at the edge and also some edgewear. However, clean throughout and tightly bound. A wonderful, quirky period piece.
