Very light wear to extremities, color fading to the endpapers, and a large Civil War-themed bookplate to the front paste-down, else clean and sound. SIGNED and generically INSCRIBED by Culp on the first blank page: "Compliments of E. C. Culp." The 25th Ohio, mustered in Columbus, saw action at Second Bull Run, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, and Fort Wagner, among many other engagements. Ryan describes this concise narrative as "one of the most intelligently written of the numerous Ohio regimental histories." The author states in his Preface that, while it has been revised and edited since, the narrative was written in the days and weeks immediately following the last action they saw in the ruins of the Confederacy, during the "long season of rest upon Folly and Hilton Head Islands."
