Rare glass-printed (or cliché-verre) edition (only 550 copies) of the less-known and one of the last (not translated) works by V. Shershenevich published by the state publishing house “Iskusstvo”. Book repertoire of the publishing house "Iskusstvo" for the period 1936-1939 numbers about 980 titles, almost a third of them were glass-printed (312 titles). Glass-printed books have a number of distinctive polygraphic and bibliological features, such as: fairly small circulation, soft wrappers, side-stitch binding, large font size (initially bright, but with subsequent quick fading). Method characterized by simplicity of the technological process, however, due to low productivity and low image quality it is not suitable for large circulations. The fluid lines possible with cliché-verre prints are reminiscent of etched lines.] (Britannica) The book describes the great story of heroism of the Spanish ordinary people (partisans or guerrillas, as they called in Spain) fighting against the army of Napoleon during the Peninsular War, which overlapped with the Spanish War of Independence against French rule. The action of the play mainly takes place in the Spanish village in 1808 when the Napoleonic France occupied Spain. During his career, Russian avant-garde writer Vadim Shershenevich (1893-1942) was influenced in turn by futurism, imaginism, and symbolism. Wide recognition has gained as founder and leader of imaginism. But in Soviet times his name was artificially removed from circulation. Rare mentions of him were sharply negative. He ceased to exist as a poet, and did not gain fame as a translator and playwright.
