Octavo, Two volumes. In Very Good minus condition. Bound in full brown leather with gilt lettering on spine. Minor shelf wear. Scuffing and scratching to boards, with leather cracking on spines. Edges of textblocks dyed speckled red, though somewhat faded. Age-toning and foxing to interior pages. Head and tail pieces to denote beginning and end of sections. Features frontispiece in Volume 1. Chunk of head of spine broken off in Volume 1, as well as small splitting at rear hinge. Some of head and tail of spine broken off in Volume 2, with headbands exposed. Bedini spent twenty five years at the Smithsonian Institution, serving as curator in the Department of Mechanical and Civil Engineering in the new Museum of History and Technology (now the National Museum of American History) before serving as first Assistant Director then Deputy Director of the National Museum of History and Technology. He then served as Keeper of Rare Books at the Dibner Library of the History of Science and Technology, a branch of the Smithsonian Institution Libraries, before becoming a Historian Emeritus.
