Later edition from 1771 in four volumes: I (312pp), II (247pp), III (295pp) and IV (316pp plus unpaginated index and Homer's Battle of the Frogs and Mice at the back 22pp). Contemporary full leather binding. The title and volume number panels have been lost on all the volumes. The volume numbers are stamped on the spines. The spines have chipping at the tops and bottoms. There is a little cracking to the edges - the binding is firm however. The corners are bumped with some rubbing and fraying and there is some light surface wear to the front and rear panels. Name of a previous owner in ink to the title page - Lady Wale of Shelford near Cambridge - with the name of an earlier owner at the top of the title page. Browning around the edges of the endpapers and the title page and facing page. Volume I has small creases to the top corners of a few pages near the front. Volume II has a small crease to the top corner of the front free endpaper, creases to the bottom corners of the last 15 pages and five tiny dark spots to the fore edges. Volume III has quite a bit of staining to the rear panel of the boards - over half the surface area is affected - and there is staining around the bottom corner of the front panel. There is also a small patch of staining at the bottom of pages 173 to 295 with this diminishing in size as we move towards the front of the book. Volume IV has one inch creases to the top corners of the final three pages. There is light browning to the pages with some spots and marks in a few places but the pages are otherwise generally unmarked. Heavy item due to it being four volumes so there will be an additional postage charge for overseas orders.
