The Blood Of The Vampire By Florence Marryat (Mixed-Race Vampire) Florence Marryat Horror

The Blood of the Vampire by Florence Marryat (Mixed-Race Vampire) A firm copy with mild wear to corners. Rubbing to spine. A few light stains to cover. Offset tanning to endpapers. Mild foxing to title page and page 1. No jacket present. Title page dated 1893. Second Edition, stated. Two burgundy binding with red cloth; gilt-stamped lettering; all edges marble pattern 345 pp. Publisher's adverts laid in. The protagonist of the book, Harriet Brandt, is a mixed-race psychic vampire who kills unintentionally. The novel follows Harriet after she leaves a Jamaican convent for Europe, and her ill-fated attempts to integrate with Victorian society. Academics highlight the novel's treatment of race, eugenics, and social class. Marryat's conception of vampires as medical rather than supernatural has also elicited interest. Very interesting early (or first) Novel of a Mixed-race Vampire.
