An Original Handwritten Secretarial Letter from the Crimean War and Counter Signed in the hand of Irish Colonel Thomas Henry Pakenham to Lieutenant General Scarlett. Dated 1855. A letter regarding certain horses that were unfit for military service proposed by Lieutenant General Scarlett, which was sanctioned by Commander of the Forces. Colonel Packenham 1826-1913 was an Irish Conservative politician and British Army officer. He fought in the Crimean War in 1854 and in the Fenian raids in 1866. He was first elected as the Member of Parliament for Antrim in 1854, succeeding his brother Edward Pakenham, who was killed at the Battle of Inkerman. General Sir James Yorke Scarlett 1799–1871 was a British Army officer and hero of the Crimean War who led the Charge of the Heavy Brigade during the Battle of Balaclava on 25 October 1854.
