I Pose ( Second Printing ) Stella Benson

Second printing of this important feminist satirical novel, the debut work by Stella Benson and uncommon in any early printing. The first American edition was published January 1916 and this followed soon after in March of the same year. Despite a couple of notable issues, this copy is quite attractive, being sturdy and well bound in green cloth boards with gilt lettering and decoration on the front board. From the home of a tobacco smoker, causing moderate darkening at the spine. Lettering on spine somewhat faded, and besides the toning is marred slightly by stray flecks of white paint, a small handful of which also adorn the front board. On the front board there is also a very faint half-oval stain, possibly from someone resting a drink on the surface. Gilt titling and symbol unbothered by stains and remains very bright on the front board. Otherwise the boards are generally quite clean and well kept, with some very light rubbing to the cloth at the very corners and one teeny scuff at center the rear joint, negligible and not effecting the binding at all. Now preserved in mylar. Interior is bright and clean, with a very slight and even toning to pages, but still fresh. Small, sweet gift note on front free endpaper in pencil "this is my surprise -a" as well as a former owners name neatly in pen at the top corner of same page. Remarkable bookplate on front pastedown of some very exotic lizard presiding over an unknown sunset scene. Altogether, despite the paint flecks and toning, an attractive copy of this very uncommon printing.
