The great railway magnate had every reason to have books on Kent in his library, as much of his time and attention in the 1880's was devoted to constructing a Channel tunnel from Folkstone to France, an enterprise begun but halted at an early stage by government intervention owing to the preceived threat of a French invasion through the tunnel. An interesting association copy of a far-sighted but somewhat optomistic entroproneur.
