[The New City.] Der Ingenius-Baukasten. Kreis, Wilhelm, & Carl August Juengst.

A rare architectural game for children with building blocks for skyscrapers, from the early years of the German high-rise. The game was designed by the German architect Wilhelm Kreis (1873-1955), who designed one of the first high-rises built in Germany, the Wilhelm-Marx-Haus, built in Düsseldorf from 1922 to 1924. The blocks are based on the tongue and groove assembly system. The accompanying leaflets give directions to children as to various buildings which can be imitated. 53 wooden building blocks housed in the original publisher's multicoloured pictorial cardboard box (247 x 163 x 49 mm), after a design by Wilhelm Willrab, lid titled "The New City" and "Ingenius-Minimal" on sides, publisher's blue printed label to inner lid and "Made in Austria" label to bottom of box. Together with numerous plans and a landscape format booklet in multicoloured pictorial paper wrappers. One block split along joint else blocks in excellent condition; box restored at extremities and presenting well. A desirable example.
