Very good books in full leather with double gilt fillet borders on front and back panels; five raised bands on spine, also edges in double gilt fillet. Red leather labels with gilt lettering in the second section of both books, and the volume number in gilt in the third sections. Page edges are red-speckled, also age-darkened. Bookplate on front paste-downs in both books of Eric Gerald Stanley, Rawlinson and Bosworth Professor at the University of Oxford. External gutters of both volumes are cracked but holding. Loss on corners and edges at head of spine. Outermost board edges are scuffed, and fore-edge corners are rubbed through. End-papers are mildly soiled and with transfer or leeching stains around margins. Text pages are age-toned, foxing is not present. Text blocks are snug.
