1887 FIRST UK EDITION. TWO VOLUMES. Original bluish gray cloth, large gilt decoration of devil-lama on front covers, gilt lettering spines, original coated grayish brown EPs. A nice set in original binding with no restoratons. Volume one: faded and rubbed very tips corners, old bookplate(?) shadow upper corner of front pastedown, no owner marks or writing on any pages, some light foxing on a few pages but most pages have no foxing, 2cm tear to top margin of frontispiece, solid binding; Volume two: spine volume II less faded than spine of volume one but it is frayed at very ends of spine, light rubbing tips corners, thin 1cm gouge top edge of front cover with corresponding loss of cloth, no foxing, no owner marks or writing on any pages, solid binding. The volumes measure 209mm tall x 140mm, with vol I [ 336 pages, 51 b/w engravings including frontispiece portrait of the author], vol II [330 pages, 26 b/w engravings, 2 pages of ads at rear].
