There are about thirty species of lavender, including true or fine lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), which grows above 800 m, and aspic lavender, or "great lavender," which grows below this altitude. Lavandin is derived from a crossbreeding of the pollen of these two lavender species. Compared to true lavender oil, aspic lavender oil contains a high concentration of cineole-1,8, linalool, and camphor.
