Kumquats thrive on the island of Corfu. These small, bitter, oval-shaped, orange fruits arrived in Greece from China in the 1800s. Today, they are grown largely on the northern coast, transformed into liqueurs and sweets sold on the island. dove Prince Philip grew up. When the time came for the founders of Aedes de Venustas, Gerstner and Karl Bradl, to imagine a citrus fragrance that would be in keeping with their baroque style, enlisted the help of Greek perfumer Ilias Ermenidis, who immediately thought of his homeland, with all its rich royal charm and natural beauty. In short for him: a mysterious citrus, with the mood of Aedes perfumery in mind. Nothing sweet or simple. Knowing that citrus scents tend to fade more quickly, he paired kumquat with Calabrian bergamot, a bracing squeeze to signal the dawn of something new. The scent of Calabrian bergamot, the star of Earl Grey tea, comes from the fruit's thick rind. It provides a zesty note that is balanced by notes of mandarin, tangerine and neroli. Salty ambrox and mystical frankincense transport us to a seascape. Ginger, lavender, Granny Smith apple and rhubarb add a rounded fruitiness to the center. Alaskan cedar, from a tree species of the cypress family, vetiver, captive mosses and tonka weave the dark base that unknowingly holds the citrus cocktail together.
