[Sheet Music]: The Devil Among The Tailor's Haigh, T[Homas] Music

Unknown edition. Folio. Single bifolium making four pages. Offsetting and toning throughout, spine notched from once being bound within an album, and some edgewear including a few small chips, still a very good and complete copy. "A favorite air arranged as a rondo for the pianoforte &c." Thomas Haigh studied composition under Joseph Haydn in 1791 and 1792. The title has connections to a Scottish fiddle tune (which we assume is the "air" referenced on the front cover) and to the game of table skittles. However, the exact origins of this name remains a mystery. Some attribute it to a riot in 1805 where London tailors protested a performance of a play that caricatured their profession, but the name is recorded as being used in regard to both the song and the game years before the incident occurred. *OCLC* locates no copies of this edition and only one copy of an edition published in London around the same time.
