This detailed railroad map of Germany was published by the Reichsbahnzentrale fur den Deutschen Reiseverkehr (state-owned railway tourism company) in January or February of 1938, just weeks before Hitler officially annexed Austria. The image shows the vast network of roads and railroads that comprise the complex transportation system of the regime. Historic sites such as castles, monasteries, and monuments are also noted, according to the legend in the lower margin. Inset maps show the ongoing construction of the nationwide autobahn in addition to the European-wide network of German airways.
