1980 FIRST EDITION. Original blue cloth with gilt lettering spine, illustrated EPs. The book has clean covers, old owner name and date penned to upper corner of FFEP otherwise no owner marks or writing on any pages, solid binding, no foxing. The original dust jacket has small loss at corners, flecked spine ends and upper rear near spine, original printed price still present on front flap corner. Much less common than the 1987 reprint and in larger format than the 1987 reprint, many different photos than those in the 1987 reprint. From the collection of Lute Jerstad with his signature dated 1980 on the upper corner of the FFEP. Jerstad was the 12th or 13th person (roped with Barry Bishop) to climb to the summit of Mt Everest (assuming that neither Mallory or Irvine reached the top), being a summiting member of the 1963 American Everest Expedition, and the first to film on the top of Everest. He was also a university professor of Asian drama with specialization on the mountain cultures of Nepal, Tibet, India and Pakistan. He authored the book, Mani Rimdu, a treatise on the Sherpa dance drama celebrated annually in the Khumbu region near Mount Everest. He later created a trekking and outdoor adventure service, Lute Jerstad Adventure, offering guided trips in N America, the Himalaya, India and surrounding countries. The book measures 320mm tall x 246mm and has 186 pages, several b/w and 57 color photos, several b/w photos, illustrations, and maps, glossary, bibliography, index.
