Autograph Letter Signed From Virgil Finlay To Charles Tanner [Weird Tales] [Pulp Science Fiction] Finlay, Virgil Fantasy,Horror And Supernatural,Illustration,Manuscript,Science Fiction
Tremendous manuscript letter from the preeminent pulp fantasy and horror illustrator, Virgil Finlay to science fiction author, Charles R. Tanner (1896-1974), who was the honorary chairman of the 1949 Worldcon in Cincinnati. Finlay graciously thanks Tanner for his invitation to be guest of honor at the "Cinvention," but declines due to a heavy workload. The illustrator mentions he is "behind the eight ball" having committed to several hard cover books that year, and has already missed his deadline for the memorial edition ofThe Ship of Ishtar.Finlay also mentions the birth of his daughter [Lail] in February. Correspondence from Finlay is relatively scarce, and this letter has a nice association with great content. Single sheet, 11x8.5" manuscript in blue ink, 3 paragraphs, 23 lines, signed by Finlay at the end. Paper slightly wrinkled and toned, small edge tears at folds. Quite legible and very good
