Dark navy cloth covered boards with gilt-stamped lettering and gilt United Confederate Veterans seal on the front panel, gilt lettering on spine. Upper edges are gilt. Side and lower edges are rough-trimmed and age-toned. Boards and spine are scuffed. Appears to be some damp-leaching along lower edge of front panel. Upper edge at head of board spine has horizontal crease; lower edge at tail has small bumps and rubs on the corners. Fore-edge corner tips are rubbed but not frayed. Bookplate on front paste-down.
