Chart of the World on Mercator's Projection.(Old Maps, 18th Century Maps, World Maps, Mercator's Projection, Exploration, Captain Cook Death). Issued c. 1790's, London. Late 18th century engraved mapà with lovely hand color. Longitude given from London. Van Diemens island shown attached to southern Australia. Note in Owhyhe (Hawaii) Capt. Cook was killed there, River of the West is named as such in NW U. S., a vast Louisiana stretches across Texas region. Nice looking example, pleasing age patina, any minor age flaws easy to overlook or forgive. Sheet Measures c. 8 1/2" H x 10 1/2" W. Engraved Area Measures c. 7 1/4" H x 10" W.[B12304].
