1882 FIRST EDITION. Original dark blue cloth with black lettering and decoration front cover. Superior condition with clean covers, small wrinkle to cloth near middle of spine, some faint light marks rear cover but nothing serious, usual browning to front and rear endpages (seems to be very common with this uncommon book), bookplate of mountaineering pioneer and author of the first serious history of Mont Blanc ascents, C. E. Mathews, on front pastedown otherwise no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, EPs expertly repaired at hinges with japanese tissue (barely detectable except under close scrutiny), no foxing, solid binding, complete with all pages and illustrations. Very uncommon Mont Blanc title in collectible condition, with excellent provenance. The book measures 223mm tall x 141mm, and has 76 pages, 6 b/w engravings, diagram, map. Account of the 768th ascent of Mont Blanc. The climb was made by the author from Chamonix and is written in a very straightforward, unsensationalized manner, thus giving a most accurate description of what happened.
