In-8° broché, 1), 134, (1) pp., 48 pp. (catalogue de l'éditeur), 4 planches h.t. Magnifique exemplaire comme neuf. Carlos Monge Medrano (December 13, 1884 in Lima - February 15, 1970 in Lima) was a Peruvian physician specializing in high altitude medicine. The Monge's disease is named after him. disease. Cf. Wintrobe, Hematology: The Blossoming of a Science, p. 48 : 'Monge gave an account of chronic mountain sickness (now called "Monge's disease"), a condition he had first described in 1925, and provided evidence in refutation of Barcroft's contention."; World Who's who in Science, p. 1198 ; J.B. West et al. , High-altitude medicine and physiology, fifth edition, pp. 13-14, 335 : "Carlos Monge Medrano merits the title of father of the study of permanent high altitude residents. He started the influential Peruvian school of Lima [.]. In 1925 he reported a case of polycythemia in a patient to the Peruvian Academy of medicine." ; West , High life history of high-altitude physiology and medicine, p. 208 : "Monge wrote a book about these conditions with the title Les Erythremies de l'altitude which was published in Paris in 1929 . The preface was written by G. H. Roger, chief of the Faculty of Medicine of Paris, and in it he recommended that the disease be called "La Maladie de Carlos Monge (Monge's disease)".; Firkin & Whitworth, Dictionary of medical eponyms, p. 356 ; Jablonski, Eponymic syndromes and diseases, p. 212 (citant une publication postérieure rédigée en anglais) ; A.P.
