"Flowers in a Vase", -Large version by Wako Ito (Japanese, born 1945). mezzotint, Signed lower right and numbered 57/150 lower left. overall 18 x 16 ins. plate size: 14 inches high x 10 ins. Born in Hokkaido in 1945, Wako Ito is a contemporary printmaker known for her mezzotints. Her works often present delicate florals or still life compositions. Between 1968 and 1970, she studied in Nice, France. A member of the Japan Print Association, Ito has exhibited her works in Japan and internationally, including many solo exhibitions A resident of Sapporo, Japan, It? specializes in still life, both flowers and fruit, employing the labor-intensive color mezzotint technique to achieve subtle gradations of color and rich, jewel-like tones. She is the daughter of It? Jin (1915-1996), a well-known painter, and one senses some of his pictorial lyricism in her work. Her artwork can be found in many important collections and museums. US Museum collections include:National Gallery of Art, Portland Museum of Art,Utah State University Museum, Worcester Art Museum, Minneapolis Institute of Arts.
