If you notice too much play when steering, or even when replacing the fork, you should replace the steering head bearings. Tip for installing steering head bearings: First check the diameter of the steering column. Carefully remove all the necessary components to access the steering column bearings. Remove the bearings and make sure to mark the positions where the individual bearings are located. Apply multi-purpose grease to the bearings when reassembling. Reassemble all parts and tighten the steering column firmly.
