The Recess ; Or, A Tale Of Other Times (Three Volumes) Lee, Sophia

Published in three volumes in 1785: I (263pp), II (298pp) and III (356pp). Bound in contemporary quarter leather with marbled boards. The spine has some chipping at the top and bottom, the title panel has 'The Recess' and all are present - the panels with the volume nos. have been lost however. there is a little light cracking along the edges but for volume three the front panel has been detached and is now held in place by a piece of tape to the front endpapers - this repair has been done some considerable time ago. Rubbing to the corners with several of these having a covering over the original leather. There is also some surface and edge wear. Browning to the endpapers with the name of a previous owner in ink to the front free endpapers of two volumes - Lady Wale of Shelford near Cambridge. there is also a family bookplate is on the front pastedown. The other volume has some there family names on the front free endpaper but these are rather faint. Slight spotting to the first few pages of each volume. The third volume has creasing to the top corners of two pages at the front. There is a small hole to one of the rear endpapers of volume II. There are some spots and marks to the pages which have some browning but the pages are generally unmarked. First printing.
