Leather-bound presentation edition coomplete in 10 volumes. VG throughout, 'an honourable monument to what English scholarship can do' (Allibone). Frontispiece portrait & 13 plans and maps, some folding, all present. Each volume is handsomely bound in brown calf with the front board bearing the crest of Wyggeston Schools Leicester, in gilt. The spines have four raised bands, two of which contain the title and volume number in gilt on contrasting black; the remainder filled with gilt tooling. Marbled endpapers and text block. The front pastedown of each volume contains a School Prize Certificate, indicating that the set formed the Governors' prize for 1902 awarded to E.H.Hardy. Tightly bound and internally clean, apart from a few fox spots to the end papers of some volumes. Externally in very good condition; just a little shelf wear to the lower quartile of the spine in six of the volumes. A very good set which would grace any library.
